Mélanie Matranga was the inaugural winner of the Frieze Artist Award for which she directed « From A to Be through E », a mini-series of 3 episodes to be broadcasted online. The series was selected for the Munich Kino der Kunst festival in 2015. In 2014 and 2016, she was amongst the artists selected for the Ricard Corporate Foundation Award, she was also shortlisted for the AWARE Women Artists Award in 2018. She’s represented by High Art Gallery in Paris and Karma International Gallery in Zurich.
Mélanie Matranga’s work revolves around multiple practices such as transfer, drawing, video, installation, ready-made and molding. Often recognized for her environments or installations, Mélanie Matranga creates spaces where it becomes possible to be alone whilst surrounded by others. These environments are as much spaces for life as spaces for reflexion that invite visitors to come into contact with her works. By immersing us into a practice where everything clashes, the artist creates spaces for communication between bodies and words. In making the exhibition space a place of intimacy - especially through personal reproductions of everyday elements - Mélanie Matranga, breaks traditional systems of representation, guides us towards a state of relaxation and questions our mechanisms of identity construction.
